Opening of the exhibition “No more bad girls?”

19.00

The question “No more bad girls?” opens up perspectives on contemporary female artists who no longer exclusively reflect on gender binarisms, rather at the same time also reveal multiple processual identity categories, such as life situations of migrants, sexual orientation, religious affiliation or ethnic origin. With a critical awareness of a “hegemonic, white, canonic feminism” (Marsha Meskimmon) the exhibition uncovers dimensions of a deconstruction of culturally-informed stereotypes of femininity, which refer to heterogeneous spatial contexts without suggesting chronological stages of development.

Artists: Arahmaiani (Indonesia), Patty Chang (USA), Nezaket Ekici (Turkey), Judith Fegerl (Austria), Regina José Galindo (Guatemala), Chitra Ganesh (USA/India), Mathilde ter Heijne (Netherlands), Maryam Jafri (Denmark/Pakistan), Agnes Janich (Poland), Eleny Kovylina (Russia), Elodie Pong (Switzerland), Larissa Sansour (Denmark/Palestine), Ene-Liis Semper (Estonia), Andrea Sunder-Plassmann (Germany), Newsha Tavakolian (Iran).

Curators: Kathrin Becker and Claudia Marion Stemberger
